Filter Cap Job

Replacing old filter caps can greatly improve the dynamics and tone of an amp.  This is not a myth... and believe me there are MANY myths out there about tube amps, especially online.  The electrolyte inside electrolytic capacitors dries up rendering them less efficient and sometimes they even cause a dead short.  There are a few of this type of capacitor in your tube amp's power supply section, and most likely a few others throughout the preamp section as well.  They should all be replaced every 10 years or so, and sooner if the amp is not used often.  Yes that's right, sooner.  The less often the amp is powered on the shorter the life span of the electrolyte.  Good filter caps provide the amp with steady DC power, minimizing noise and maximising dynamics and tone.
